A mother of 5 success story. 

 Longing for my own space after 2 years of living with my mother, a friend of mine informed me on the program positive spin. With All hope lost due to failing at finding a stable living for my 5 children and I for the past 2 years I reached out to positive spin. That’s when I was placed in the care of Mrs Lawana Freeman. I met with Mrs Lawana on Friday Nov 22nd. We spoke briefly on my major concerns and that was just to have a stable home for my children. By dec 5th I was scheduled for the zoom housing class, dec 11th my financial literacy class and already applied for an apartment complex waiting on approval. Fast forward 2 months later January 22nd receiving the keys to me and my kids HOME. I couldn’t have been happier. I want to thank positive spin, Mrs Elaine Thomas and MOST OF all Mrs. Lawana Freeman, for taking me under your wing and allowing me to expand mine freely. You ladies are the BEST :) -Samaria Roberts

During the time that I was enrolled in the program, my family and I felt very supported and accompanied in this process where your help was very timely and served us greatly. I want to thank Chrystian, who was the person who accompanied us throughout the process; his work was excellent and impeccable; every doubt or question we had was answered. Chrystian resolved that his information was always very clear and precise, and we felt supported and accompanied, his help was very important for us because we managed to organize many things in the financial area of the family. From the start of my journey with Positive Spin the entire organization has been true to their mission statement.

To engage, elevate and strengthen families within their neighborhood by providing support and growth opportunities that lead to sustained positive outcomes. Program activities offer a path to increased family and self-sufficiency.

The Case Manager Supervisor Sabrina Taylor was gracious enough to assist me and my 3 year old daughter in a situation where our housing was in danger. Even when funding sources were exhausted she still was emphatic enough to hear my concerns.

Not to mention my Case worker Ms. Sheila Tape has been a guiding light in a lot of dark times.

She has encouraged and supported me beyond words. From budgeting courses, employment referrals, bus passes, and much more!

It is a team effort between Sheila and the Positive Spin organization as a whole.

I am still a work in progress it I look forward to being a success story of Positive Spin. I know this will be accomplished by working at my goals, and the support of my case worker.

far the best program I’ve ever been in. At the time I Joined the program I was going through so much, but MS. Devine was so understanding, nice, helpful, truthful, and many more. II am very grateful that I met her. I will never forget Mrs. Devine being here for me when I needed someone the most. Also, I can’t forget about Ms. Elaine. I just want to say thank you for your assistance with finding me and my babies an apartment, as well as keeping in contact with me to follow up. You ladies and the program are a blessing.

Before I even met Martha, my life felt out of control, and I honestly felt hopeless that I would never be able to move out of my mom’s house. I had tired to gain independence from my parents over the last five years, but life constantly felt like it wasn’t moving. I had no confidence in myself as a woman and a mother because I felt like I was not providing for my kids what they deserved. Then I met Martha and Lawana, and my whole perspective changed. Not only did they help me find multiple resources for me and my kids, but they also helped me gain back the self-confidence I had lost over the years. They were completely supportive in my search for an apartment and helped me obtain the more in costs I had struggled with for years. These women, from Martha to Lawana, Ms. Elaine and Ms. Sabrina, every one of them have left me feeling empowered, and I am forever grateful that I met this wonderful group of women!

Completing the Positive Spins program has been a truly life‑changing experience for me and my family. When I first entered the program, I was struggling with my confidence and facing several difficult moments in my life. Positive Spins, along with my dedicated worker, Mrs. Lawana, became a source of strength, support, and stability when I needed it most.

Mrs. Lawana went above and beyond for me. Whenever I felt anxious or overwhelmed, she was only a phone call away, ready to listen, guide, and reassure me. Her kindness and patience helped me rebuild my confidence and reminded me that I wasn’t alone on my journey.

The agency also stepped in to support my family in meaningful ways. When they couldn’t assist me directly, they always provided helpful resources. They made sure my three children had groceries and warm winter clothing, easing burdens that weighed heavily on me as a parent. We were also blessed to receive Christmas gifts from wonderful, generous people, which brought so much joy to my children during the holidays.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Mrs. Lawana, the Positive Spins program, and the Children’s Board. Your support, compassion, and generosity have made a real difference in our lives. Thank you for helping me regain my confidence and for showing such kindness to me and my children.

A Journey of Hope, Help, and Healing

At just 31 years old, and a young mother of three, ages 2, 6, and 11, I was determined to rebuild my life and provide stability for my children after facing a challenging period of unemployment. Having been out of work since June 2025, I reached out to Positive Spin, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering families in need of support and guidance.

That single phone call became the turning point in my journey.

Upon connecting with Positive Spin, I was assigned an incredible case manager, Ms. Lawana, whose compassion, professionalism, and quick action made all the difference. From day one, Lawana moved with purpose, ensuring that I had access to the resources, encouragement, and support I needed to get back on my feet.

Each week, Lawana made consistent home visits, offering not just information, but genuine care. She provided helpful resources, job leads, and words of motivation that reminded me that I could and would rise again. Over time, a meaningful bond formed, not only between Lawana and myself, but with my three beautiful children as well. The kids looked forward to her visits, and her presence became a bright spot in our week.

Even during the most stressful moments, Lawana was dependable, always just a phone call away (well, except outside of business hours, of course! 😉). Her dedication and positive spirit reflected the true heart of the Positive Spin mission.

By August 25, 2025, I successfully returned to work, confident, focused, and grateful. Through consistency, teamwork, and unwavering support, I regained my stability and my smile.

Today, I stand as a proud example of what can happen when faith, persistence, and the right support system come together.

Positive Spin and Ms. Lawana, thank you for turning a difficult chapter into a story of strength, success, and new beginnings.

My name is Alexis Berrien, and I would like to say that Ms. Vernetta and Ms. Elaine has been wonderful, the best! They checked on my son and I.  They are the most - kind women ever and I say that from the heart. I really do appreciate everything they both have done for me. I just cannot thank them enough. I thank you Ms. Vernetta and Ms. Elaine also Positive Spin program for helping me with everything.

Ms. Vernetta connected me with Ms. Elaine the Housing Manager in the Positive Spin program. During the process Ms. Elaine was able to help me get a 2-bedroom 2bath apartment.  Ms. Vernetta did the paperwork to help with my deposit and the prorated rent.  Ms. Elaine also sign me up for the Metropolitan Up and Out Program as well.

When I moved into my apartment, I did not have any more money to help with any of things like food. Ms. Vernetta helped with food by giving me a gift card for Publix.

Once again, I would like to thank Ms. Vernetta and Ms. Elaine for everything, they have done for me and my son.
